The Importance of Exercise

Exercise and physical activity are important for everybody’s overall well-being. In our society, where we work jobs that have us sitting at a computer all day long, movement is especially important. Kim Delafuente, Exercise Physiologist at Spectrum Health Healthier Communities, and Teri Harmon, Association Director of Fitness Programs and Services for the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, discuss the role that exercise plays in prevention and treatment of disease, the physical and mental benefits of living an active lifestyle, and how to start your own exercise routine. Teri also leads a short exercise demonstration with assistance from Ashley Lustre and Theresa Rupinski, Exercise Science Majors from Grand Valley State University, to show easy moves that you can do at home, work, or on the go to stay active.
