What is the best diet for humans? | Eran Segal | TEDxRuppin

Prof. Eran Segal presented conclusions from the research on the TEDxRuppin stage and made us question common dietary beliefs.

New research led by Prof. Eran Segals and Dr. Elinavs research unit indicates a drastic change in blood sugar levels between two individuals on identical diets – this may explain why some struggle to lose weight while others, on the same diet, stay lean and fit. The scientists even developed an algorithm that can calculate ones blood level based on his or her biology and lifestyle.

  4. Anyone else notice when researching if a food is good to eat they find its bad? My problem is there are only so many type of food. I’m running out of stuff to research. If I understand correctly. All food is bad for humans. I should start looking at who sponsors theese research articles.

  10. Anytime someone says you need a machine to tell you what diet you need … I think they are on the wrong path. This guy says you need a machine. Keto says you need a machine. Obviously these are not are "natural" diets if we need a machine.

  11. The reality was our ancestors led very short, brutal lives. Few lived into what is considered middle age and even less into 60 plus. I have seen mataes used to grind seeds into a flour that were supposedly 30,000 years old. Same for nuts.
    As humans we are omnivores. Not conivors or herbavors. We have the equipment to tear, grind and digest pretty much what ever we find.

  14. It’s amazing that the use of technology may guide our diets more and more over time.

  15. the thing is, any diet can work. whether you try Atkins or keto or paleo or plant-based or carnivore or whatever you try, they all can work. But the best thing for someone to do is to get into working out and try to organize a proper eating regimen and looking to understand how eating healthy works. Eat a balanced nutritional diet that involves all of the different macros of proteins, fats, and carbs. focus on understanding portion sizes first, what foods you like and what foods disagree with you. what each type of food does for your body and the nutrients they have. how calories work when you eat. everyone always wants to just jump to losing weight and figure they can just pick a diet like a keto or try fasting and think their answers will be given to them. although they can, many people fail this way because they realize trying out these diets is harder than they thought and they just end up binge eating again because they deprive themselves of foods or different macros they should have been supplying their bodies with. just like anything in life, learn the proper methods of structuring your eating and how nutrition works. some people learn faster than others but it’s something I think everyone should understand.

  17. The Standard American Diet, aptly with the initials SAD, is what most people eat and not what is recommended in the incorrect nutritional guidelines. You can lead a perfectly healthy life without ever consuming a carb because you body can make all you need. Yes, humans evolved to be omnivores but for most of the year in the northern hemisphere only meat was available so we were mostly carnivores. 10,000 year of agriculture didn’t change that.

  20. He said Americans eat 50 meals per week. Ummmm, 50/7=7+ meals per day. But sure, tell people that weight loss is so complex that they need to have their microbiome studied individually to customize a boutique meal plan because surely it’s not eating 7 meals a day that’s killing us. Or the pop, chips, burgers, pizzas, chemicals, preservatives, plastics, etc. I appreciate the lecture for its raw data but not its conclusions.

  23. I immediately am skeptical of this guy when he says that people generally follow dietary guidelines.That’s totally bogus.

    We already know that the mitochondria, organs, hormones, etc. all change and adapt to dietary, sleep, and other habitual changes, so this study does not confirm his conclusions. All it means is that a given person at a given time is better at metabolizing certain foods based on their current habits. Nice participation trophy talk, and attempt at excusing people into their unhealthy weights.
